TIPS FOR SEARCHING THE LIBRARY CATALOGUE

Author/Editor (also includes producer): To search by full name, do an exact search, typing in last name, first name, and (if relevant) initial or middle name e.g. Dershowitz, Alan M.. To search by last name only, do a literal or begins with search.

If the item is in English-language, the author's name has been catalogued in English. If the item is in Hebrew-language, the author's name has been catalogued in Hebrew. To check for all items by an author, it is necessary to search for the name in English and in Hebrew.

Subject: All subjects are listed in the catalogue in English-language only. The list of detailed subjects is limited. If your search for a detailed subject does not yield results, it is possible to search for the subject by combining key words in the subject query using the term and between them in the text. e.g. To search for items about New York Jews: search by query text New York and Jews e.g. To search for items about Conservative Judaism in the United States: search by query text Conservative Judaism and United States

Type: All material types are listed in the catalogue in English-language only. Items can be searched by the following categories:

• Book
• Dissertation
• Periodical
• AJC Publication
• DVD
• VIDEO
• Miscellaneous (this category includes pamphlets, reports, etc.)

Language: there are two options in this field: English or עברית. Do not search using the term Hebrew or אנגלית.

Year Received: this field enables one to receive a list of all items acquired by the library in the specific year searched and thus keep track of recent arrivals to the library. For Hebrew-speakers, see חדש במדפי הספריה
